Comment on Pakistan President's recent visit of New Zealand.
Let me make a statement I have not been a gardener at any time in my life, nor have I understood the subtle science of horticulture. I just love watering the plants of my garden. It is my request to the government to let me define the agricultural policy of Pakistan.
You would be thinking that this lad has never had any exposure to farming, how can he be a candidate for the job of the principal policy maker on agriculture? Let me quote the President making a statement in New Zealand that Secularism, democracy and modernization are inherent in Islam. This statement comes from a man himself admits that he is no theologian. I do not offer regular prayers but I am a Muslim he said recently in Britain. Can you draw the analogy?
The president cant be the one to define or explain what Islam is, as I cannot be the one to make the agricultural policy for the country. We are not the right choice for these jobs because neither of us knows nor understands what he wants to do. -UMAR FAROOQ, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, June 20.
