Dear Abigail Van Buren tells a husband ...What to do?

HUSBAND WANTS WHAT'S BEST FOR HIS WIFE -- EVEN DIVORCE By Abigail Van Buren Mon Jun 27,10:13 AM ET DEAR ABBY: Last night I was having trouble accessing the Internet on my computer and wanted to see if my wife's laptop was having the same problem. When I opened her computer, I found she had left open an e-mail from a family friend, and my name caught my eye. The letter was about how much he and she loved each other, and what they should do about it because they didn't want to hurt me. I didn't read any further, and I haven't mentioned to my wife that I saw it. I can understand what's behind it -- I'm almost 40 and I've gained a lot of weight in recent years. I have never been a great husband, and my wife has made it clear she doesn't feel the same way about me as she once did. The man who wrote to her is a really nice person, and I trust both of them enough that I doubt there is anything physical going on. They're just trying to deal with their emotions. Complicating things, my wife and I have an 8-year-old daughter. What should I do? I want my wife to be happy, and maybe she'd be happier with him than with me. I know she wouldn't want to hurt me, so I'd rather not let her know how badly this has wounded me because it would make her feel awful. Counseling is pretty much out of the question, because she would not be comfortable with that. I feel like all I can do is find a way to get out of the picture and let her go on with her life, but I hate the thought of being away from her and our daughter because I love them both very much. Do I have any options here, or am I as trapped as I feel? -- DEVASTATED IN SANTA MONICA DEAR DEVASTATED: Let me get this straight. Your wife is having an affair, definitely emotional and possibly physical, and you don't want to confront her because you're afraid it might hurt HER? She has "made it clear" she doesn't feel the same way about you that she once did, and you're afraid that marriage counseling might make HER uncomfortable? Sir, it's time to get your head straight -- and the quickest way to do it is counseling for yourself to discover where you left your self-esteem. Before you make any decisions about the future of your marriage, it is vital that you get some therapy. Sneaking away is not the answer; the answer is putting your house in order.

Bush restores US market access for Indian, Pakistani goods

WASHINGTON: US President George W. Bush on Wednesday restored duty-free access to US markets for some goods from India and Pakistan, citing progress on intellectual property and worker rights, respectively.

In a proclamation released by the White House, the president said he was acting under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) trade rules and the US Trade Act of 1974.

Pakistan: What price Sovereignity ?

Wahid Butt of Lahore writies;
Reference ‘Perked up Nationalism’ by Sadaf Sartaj (May 28/2005). The good lady has drawn attention to what Lt-Gen. David Barno, Commander US Forces in Afghanistan, said which is reproduced here: “Collectively we feel that there is a need to under take a military operation in North Waziristan to keep pressure on the terrorists”. The learned writer has a question: Isn’t it interference in our internal affairs? If it is, then what price our sovereignty?
The US General is fully aware of the fact that General Pervez Musharraf acquired power through a coup d’etat. He runs a sham democracy at home and is so weak that he accepted to become a front-line ally of the US against terrorism on just one telephone call from the Secretary of State General Collin Powell.
The ‘elected’ parliament in Pakistan, actually a rubberstamp, has passed a bill allowing General Musharraf to remain as President and COAS in uniform until 2007. Hence what price sovereignty, dignity and independence. These are mere words for this tin-pot dictator.

I lost 3 brothers and 2 sisters because of BAD Water. Take Care.

Thank you.......

"Emi-mouse" is the nick name of my sister, who has sent me the following words of wisdon. Enjoy but take care that you drink the healthy water.

.................. One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University study. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day? (No kidding, all of the above is true...) Of course, too much water may have strange side effects...

A kind friend has posted his comment to the above contribution which is very interesting. So I am posting it on my page for your interest.

porchwise said... According to Discover magazine, all the figures you've used are erroneous now. The newest studies show you should let your body determine your water intake. Don't ask me how you do this, that's the mystery that hasn't been explained yet. Wednesday, 29 June, 2005.

Different Americans have different feelings about Pakistan and rape cases

Friends of America

Two published letters addressed to New York Times recently for your interest.

In "The 11-Year-Old Wife" (column, June 21), Nicholas D. Kristof recounts the absurdly awful human rights record of the current regime in Pakistan, one of our closest allies in the Middle East-Central Asia region. Other good friends there include the repressive and exploitive Saudi royal family, and Islam A. Karimov, the "president for life" of Uzbekistan, whose human rights record is accepted as one of the worst in the world. With friends like these ...

How does it happen that we speak out of one side of our collective national mouth about bringing our love of democracy to the world's oppressed, and, from the other side, we praise and reward people like the above named? Do we really believe that nobody is catching on?

John Smart Park Falls, Wis., June 21, 2005

•

To the Editor:

In response to critics who voice embarrassment that his columns about rape in Pakistan are drawing attention to barbarism in that country, Nicholas D. Kristof suggests as a comparison the embarrassment Americans feel about Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo.

But he does not mention another source of national shame. Mr. Kristof laments the fact that in Pakistan, one woman is raped every two hours. In the United States, with a population less than twice the size of Pakistan, F.B.I. statistics indicate that one woman is estimated to be raped every six minutes.

When we focus on what are assumed to be cultural or religious sources of gendered violence, we often fail to look in the mirror. We should take seriously the problem of rape in both nations. Leti Volpp Silver Spring, Md., June 21, 2005

Perceptions

Sir: Had Mukhtar Mai been allowed to go abroad it would have served the purpose of the regime. She had nothing against the regime. So why did the all-powerful President Pervez Musharraf – remember him showing his fists in the parliament? – shiver at the thought of her attending a seminar? Why did he think she was going to malign his liberal achievements and that too in the United States?

Musharraf is right in saying that Pakistan is a victim of poor perceptions. But the fact is that reality is not so good either. Amnesty International reports that in Pakistan a woman is raped every two hours. Stopping victims from sharing the ways to deal with the plight of women, making them leave the country or banning organisations working for social reform will not solve the problems. Human rights cannot be dismissed as foreign agenda.
